The African Academy of Sciences (AAS) is a pan-African, non-political, not-for-profit organization that runs multiple research funding programs, fellowships, and grants for African scientists. Key programs include ARISE (African Research Initiative for Scientific Excellence), APTI (African Postdoctoral Training Initiative), FLAIR (Future Leaders – African Independent Research), CIRCLE (Climate Impact Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement), and the African Planet Prize. AAS is the only continental Academy with African Union recognition.

Ongoing mentorship, AAS Fellow network access, policy engagement opportunities, and African Union recognition ecosystem.
AAS is a research and academic funding organization, NOT a startup investor. Opportunities listed in MsingiLab are relevant only to science-based ventures or researcher-founders. The original unverified record incorrectly listed 'For-Profit Startups' as entityTypesFunded.
AAS is best suited for researcher-founders building science-based ventures or academic entrepreneurs. The African Planet Prize is the most startup-accessible pathway — it targets Africa-led solutions to planetary boundaries. For science-based startups, ARISE and FLAIR fellowships can fund early-stage R&D.
