African women-led organizations and movements driving gender justice and social transformation. AWDF deliberately seeks out organizations 'often deemed too risky to partner with' — grassroots groups, nascent organizations, unregistered movements. Strong preference for work with young women, women facing multiple discrimination, and projects incorporating arts, culture, sports, and technology.
Capacity building support, organizational strengthening, connection to AWDF's pan-African network of 1,500+ women's organizations. Peer learning and movement building convenings. Ongoing relationship with AWDF program team.
Application window is very short (typically ~4 weeks). No 2026 cycle announced yet as of April 3, 2026. Must monitor awdf.org/grants closely for next call.
AWDF's application windows are brief — typically one month. Sign up for their newsletter and follow @awdf01 on social media to catch the announcement. Choose the grant category that best matches your work (Inua, Siza, Matla, Economic Justice, or Zimba). Only one application per organization.
