Completed architectural projects that serve communities with significant Muslim presence. The award covers a broad range — from contemporary design to social housing, conservation to landscape design. Africa has strong representation: the 2025 cycle included a winner from Egypt (Revitalization of Historic Esna). The new 17th cycle (2026-2028) is now accepting submissions until September 15, 2026.
Global media exposure, archival documentation, exhibition opportunities, AKDN network access
Not Africa-specific — focuses on Muslim societies globally. Long cycle time (3 years). Only completed projects eligible.
The Award has a strong track record of recognizing African projects — past African winners include projects in Egypt, Mali, Senegal, Morocco, Burkina Faso, and Tanzania. Community-oriented and socially impactful projects tend to be favored. The September 2026 deadline gives time to prepare a strong submission for the new cycle.
