Nutrition Enterprise Development
Market systems development approach to improve food systems, increase inclusivity, and nutrition outcomes. Netherlands-funded Nutrition Impact at Scale project (2022-2026).
SMEs in Sub-Saharan Africa that produce or distribute nutritious, safe, and affordable food for lower-income consumers. GAIN prioritizes enterprises with clear nutrition impact, viable business models, and capacity to scale. Strong interest in food fortification, vegetable/poultry/fish/dairy value chains, and enterprises serving the base of the pyramid.
Technical assistance facility accompanies N3F debt financing. Includes food safety support, processing optimization, product formulation, marketing assistance, and business development services. GAIN country offices provide ongoing relationship management.
No single open application portal; funding is program-specific; N3F is debt (not grant); SMEs must be able to service repayment; Warm introductions through country offices are strongly recommended
Start by engaging GAIN's country office in your target market. The N3F is the primary vehicle for SME financing but is debt-based. Smaller grants may be available through specific programs. Monitor gainhealth.org/requests-for-proposals for consultancy and partnership opportunities. Emphasize measurable nutrition outcomes in your pitch.
