Irish Aid channels its development cooperation primarily through trusted Irish and international NGOs working to reduce poverty, hunger, and humanitarian need in sub-Saharan Africa. It prioritizes organizations with deep presence in its 8 partner countries, strong governance, and programs integrating gender equality, climate action, and sustainable food systems. Direct applications from African organizations are generally not accepted — funding flows through established NGO partners.
Reporting support, capacity building, peer learning network, long-term partnership framework under Civil Society Partnership for A Better World (2023-2027)
Does not fund African organizations directly — only through Irish/international NGO intermediaries; 2026 CSF round is closed; next cycle expected mid-2026; High reporting and compliance burden
For African organizations seeking Irish Aid funding, the pathway is to partner with one of the 10 funded Irish NGOs (Concern, Trócaire, GOAL, Self Help Africa, etc.) as a local implementing partner. The Ireland Fellows Programme offers direct scholarships for individuals from partner countries.
