MIDA (Migration for Development in Africa) is an IOM programme that mobilizes African diaspora professionals to contribute their skills, knowledge, and resources to development in their countries of origin. Diaspora experts are recruited and deployed to government institutions, health systems, and educational institutions. Transfers happen via temporary assignments, virtual/remote work, permanent relocation, or investment facilitation.

Diaspora experts mentor local professionals through structured knowledge transfer programmes.
Virtual/Remote Engagement
ICT-enabled remote skills transfer to reduce costs while maintaining diaspora contribution.
Qualified African diaspora professionals with relevant expertise aligned to their country of origin's national development priorities. Strong preference for professionals in health, education, public finance, governance, and justice sectors. Must be willing to relocate temporarily or permanently, or engage remotely through ICT-enabled platforms.
Structured mentorship programme pairing diaspora experts with local professionals. National MIDA steering committees coordinate ongoing support. IOM country offices provide logistics and institutional liaison.
Not a startup/enterprise funding programme — serves individual diaspora professionals; Country programmes operate independently with different timelines and requirements; Original record website (midafrg.org) appears defunct — use IOM official pages
MIDA operates through IOM country offices. Contact the IOM office in your country of origin directly for current openings. MIDA Somalia is the most active country programme (800+ deployments). The programme increasingly uses virtual/remote modalities, making participation possible without full relocation. Align your application to the host country's National Development Plan for best chances.
