Business Planning Skills
Competition is structured as a learning program — participants are trained in business planning, marketing strategy, and cash flow forecasting before submitting plans.
Aspiring young South African entrepreneurs (18-35) who have a business idea but need structured support to develop it into a viable plan. The competition is as much about the learning journey (workshops, training, mentorship) as the prize. Strong written business plans with realistic financials score highest.
Winners and finalists receive mentorship vouchers redeemable with approved Business Partners mentors. Access to SME Toolkit digital resources. Potential pathway to Business Partners risk finance for viable businesses.
Prize is modest (R50K cash ~$2,700 USD) — primary value is in training and mentorship; Requires sustained commitment over several months (June to February); 2026 edition not yet announced — typically launches June each year
Business plan quality is everything — this is not a pitch competition. Focus on a realistic, well-researched business plan with solid financials. Attend all free workshops (available in 5+ cities) as they directly prepare you for what judges evaluate. The mentorship voucher can be more valuable than the cash prize. Competition launches on Youth Day (June 16) each year. The program has been running for 16 years — well-established credibility.
